Supermétal Spring 2020 Update

COVID-19 has impacted operations, but our production facilities and jobsites remain open. With a reduced workforce, Supermétal is taking recommended OH&S precautions and posted guidelines to ensure the safety of our employees. We are proud of our staff that are working hard in these difficult times allowing our projects to continue forward!

Medicago Headquarters and Vaccine Facility is continuing construction with a new emphasis on it's importance. The company is on the front lines of researching for a treatment of the COVID-19 virus. The new vaccine production facility will be developed on a 90,000m² site in Quebec City. It will span 44,000m² and comprise Medicago’s headquarters, a research and development (R&D) centre, a 9,000m² greenhouse and vaccine production facilities. The 2700 tonne structural steel supply and install contract is with EBC.

In Vancouver, we had a new aerial video shoot capturing some incredible perspectives of Westbank's Deloitte Summit, 400 West Georgia Tower. The tower is steadily erecting steel, now on the 17th floor. All facets of Supermétal have been heavily involved to ensure the successful construction of this landmark office building.

Across the street in Vancouver at the Amazon Post Office redevelopment, Supermétal's Construction Division team installed complex trusses with intricate erection procedures. See below pictures that depict tandem lifts in constrained overhead restrictions, shoring posts with hydraulic jacks and a solution to install a truss that penetrates a load bearing column. We were up to the challenge and happy to execute our first contract with PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc.

In Massachusetts, Supermétal is busy furnishing steel for 2 large schools- Attleboro and Fuller. Attleboro High School is a 4-story 470,000 sq ft facility requiring 3000 tons of steel. The new Fuller Middle School is a 4-story institution in Framingham requiring 800 tons. Both projects feature impressive gymnasiums, auditoriums and will be state-of-art educational spaces for our future generations. Supermétal is under contract with respected General Contractor- Consigli Construction. Thank-you to Ironworker Alex for the pictures at Attleboro!

In Calgary, the beams for the ramp at the 9th Avenue Platform project are now installed. The galvanized "Hockey Stick' beams had to be precisely fabricated to meet the tight tolerances of the columns and installed by pin connections. The Platform project is being developed by CMLC to promote Calgary business innovation. Supermétal's design assist contract is through our valued partner EllisDon. This project was recently featured in the Calgary Construction Association's Annual 'Constructor' Magazine.
