Shell Scotford AOSP
In the early 1980s, the Scotford Shell refinery was the first of Supermetal's projects in Alberta. Today, Supermetal is on its third project for Shell in Alberta, the Scotford Upgrader, which entails 12,000 tons of steel, the second-largest Supermetal contract in Alberta after Syncrude. This latest project is part of the Athabasca Oil Sands Project (AOSP), one of the largest on the planet in terms of scope and investment.

The Scotford refinery is one of the most efficient and modern in North America, as well as being the first to exclusively refine synthetic crude oil from the Alberta tar sands. It is located 40 km northeast of Edmonton. More than 750 people work there to produce 100,000 barrels of synthetic crude oil per day.
